24 June is the day Obzor celebrates itself. On Enyovden the town marks its holiday, and as every year Svoboda Square becomes an open-air stage.
The programme of the day
The holiday opens in the morning, at 9:00, with a festive liturgy in the church of St John the Baptist. In the evening, from 21:00, Toni Dimitrova, one of the best-loved voices in Bulgarian popular music, performs on Svoboda Square. The night ends with fireworks over the sea.
A little about Enyovden
Enyovden (Midsummer Day) is one of the loveliest summer holidays in the Bulgarian calendar. Tradition holds that herbs gathered at dawn on this day carry the greatest healing power, so the holiday is bound up with wreaths, small bunches of herbs and wishes for good health. In Obzor it falls on the town's own holiday, so the day brings faith, folklore and summer spirit together in one place.
