Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to visit?

It depends what you are after. For full summer, a warm sea and a busy resort, go for July and August: the sea is 24-25°C and everything is open, but it is also the priciest and most crowded time. For something calmer with better prices and still fine weather, aim for late May, June or September. After mid-September most venues close.

How do I get to Obzor?

By car, by bus, or via Varna or Burgas airport with a transfer. All the details are on the "How to get here" page.

Do cards work everywhere?

In hotels, restaurants and larger shops, yes. On the beach, in small shops and with taxi drivers, not always. Always keep a little cash in euros.

Is the tap water safe to drink?

Yes. In Obzor, as everywhere in Bulgaria, the tap water is fine to drink. Bottled is widely available too if you prefer.

What do a beach umbrella and lounger cost?

Usually €8 a day for an umbrella and two loungers in the middle section of the central beach. The northern end and Irakli have no paid umbrellas, so bring a mat.

Is Obzor good with children?

Very. The beach is shallow and fine sand, with lifeguards on duty from 15 June to 15 September. Obzor and neighbouring Sunny Beach have playgrounds and water attractions, and medical care is close by.

Are there jellyfish?

Sometimes, mostly in late August and September on certain southerly currents. Locals take a quick look at the water before getting in; if there are only a few, they usually clear off within a day or two.

Do people speak English and Russian?

At tourist venues, yes, both widely. In small shops and among older people English is rarer, but Russian is understood almost everywhere.
